Obituary: Miltonvale Record, Miltonvale, KS, July 26, 1934—- Emma Latisha Cain was born June 7 1857 in Somerset, Ohio, and departed this life July 22 1934 from her home in Miltonvale, Kansas, aged 77 years, 1 month and 15 days. She was united in marriage with L.M. Wheeler January 1881 at Morse Bluff, Nebraska. They came to Kansas January 23, 1903, locating on a farm near Aurora, Kansas, and later in 1909 moved to their present home in Miltonvale, Kansas. Eight children were born to this union two dying in infancy, and Robert, who preceded his mother three and one half years. Those who remain to hold dear her memory are her husband, L.M. Wheeler, five daughters, Mrs. Nora Wardle of Ainsworth, Nebraska; Mrs. Lola Lynas of Aurora, Kansas; Mrs. Bessie McCain of Elk city, Kansas; Mrs. Ada Durkee of Burlingame, Kansas; Mrs Della Dallen of Miltonvale, Kansas; and three brothers, Sam Cain of Vining, Kansas; Ben Cain and Alva Cain both of Oblong, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends.Funeral services were conducted from the Wheeler home in Miltonvale, Kansas, Tuesday afternoon, July 24 by Rev. F.A. Groves. The many beautiful floral offerings bespeak the esteem in which Sister Wheeler was held by her many friends. A short service was held at the grave and the body laid to rest in the Miltonvale Cemetery.

She was the seventh one of 9 children, all of whom with the exception of one sister, Mrs. Dell Dallen, have preceded her in death. The Wheeler family came to Kansas in January, 1903, locating on a farm in the Aurora area before moving to Miltonvale. Ada was united in marriage to Nile Durkee October 6 1908, in Miltonvale, Kans. To this union were born three daughters who remain to cherish her memories. They are: Leona, Mrs. Raymond Ferguson of Blue Rapids, Kans.; Emma of Miltonvale, Kans.; and Gertrude, Mrs. L.M. Elgin, of Burlingame, Kans. Besides her three daughters she is survived by 7 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren. Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. Dell Dallen; one sister in law, Mrs. Hazel Thompson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. The family lived near or in Miltonvale from 1908 to 1918 when they moved to Weskan, where they lived for 4 years before returning to Miltonvale where they lived until 1926. Then they moved to Marshall County and resided there until her husband, Nile, passed away, Oct 15, 1931. Mrs. Durkee worked at various jobs until her daughters had left home to pursue their life’s activities. Then she studied nursing and received her diploma from the Chicago School of Nursing in 1946. Funeral services were conducted at the F.C. Hill Memorial Church in Miltonvale on Jan 25, 1979. Casket bearers were Gene Hansen, Marvin Lilliman, Dennis Hillan, Clarence Ming, William Lippe and Frank Hughes. Interment was in the Miltonvale Cemetery
Obituary: Miltonvale Record, October 22 1931 – Nile Durkee, who was the son of William and Harriet Durkee, was born at Aurora, Kansas, on April 8 1881, and departed this life at his late home at Waterville, Kansas, October 15 1931. Thus he lived to bless the world for fifty years, six months and seven days. The most of his life was lived in Cloud County, and together with his family he lived four years in Wallace county and five years in Marshall County. On October 6, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Ada Wheeler. To this union three daughters were born and remain to mourn their great loss. They are Mrs. Leona Ferguson, of Blue Rapids, Kansas, and Miss Emma and Miss Gertrude, who live with their mother at Waterville. While living in Wallace county Mr. Durkee professed faith in Christ as his personal Savior and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Weskan, Kansas. Mr. Durkee was an honest, industrious man, a good neighbor, a loving husband and father, and a man who had many friends who will greatly miss him. Besides the above named immediate family he is survived by two brothers, three sisters, a baby granddaughter and other more distant relatives. Funeral services were held from the college chapel in Miltonvale, Kansas at 2:00 o’clock pm Sunday. Rev. R.W. Mack conducted the funeral, being assisted by Rev. Charles Walker, of the M.E. church and Prof. O.G. Wilson, of the college. Music was rendered by a quartet from the college. Six young lady friends of the family acted as flower girls, while six neighbors from Waterville were the pall bearers. The floral tributes were many and beautiful and the large attendance at the funeral attested the high esteem in which Mr. Durkee was held. Interment was made in the beautiful Miltonvale cemetery.
Edna Della Wheeler was born in 1892 in Nebraska. She married Joseph Emery Dallen in May 1910. He was born in 1887 in Kansas.
