Patrick M. Caine, John Caine and James Cain in Early Ohio and Pennsylvania

I have been very frustrated in trying to find the parents of my John Caine.  Following are some research notes that I made when looking for more information about John and his probable father, Patrick Caine and his probable brother, James Cain, Sr.  Of course the problem lies in the fact that Patrick, James and John are very common names in Irish families.

John Caine and James Caine, Sr. both say they were born in Pennsylvania and in one instance John Caine says he was born in Virginia.  I have concentrated my research in central and western Pennsylvania and also in western Virginia.  Back in the 1700’s and early 1800’s the western boundary lines of these two states changed and a person could have been born when the land was Virginia but later was changed to be part of Pennsylvania.

I will be adding to these lists when I find new sources. Do you have any source information about a Patrick, James or John Cain / Caine / Kane / Kain / Cane / O’Cain / O’Caine / O’Kane?
