I have designated this James Caine with the ‘Sr.’ because we have others named James Cain. I have a timeline for him here.
It has been difficult finding information about James but I do believe him to be the brother of John Caine and son of Patrick Caine.
An article about James Caine / Kain was in the Republican Tribune on July 25, 1923 which reads that a “Mrs. Karnes thinks that a man by the name of James Cain or Kain is buried in the old cemetery at McArthur. He was a soldier in the War of 1812.”
James is buried in the Old McArthur Cemetery in McArthur, Vinton County, Ohio. My sister and I visited the cemetery on a researching trip back in the year 2000. The stone for James and Sarah Cain was very hard to read and pencil rubbing or baby powder didn’t work. To find the grave go all the way to the back of the cemetery after walking in from the highway. The grave is to the left and in the back of the old cemetery. The date look like it reads:
Born – Aug 11, 1786
Died – Mar 24, 186?
