James M. Dawson was born on April 5, 1832 in Indianapolis, Indiana and died on June 1, 1904 in Ames, Cloud County, Kansas. He was the son of Matthias and Nancy Dawson. He married Sarah Margaret Laflin, daughter of William Laflin and Mary Tevis, on May 15, 1856 in Union Co, Indiana. She was born on June 28, 1840 in Connersville, Indiana. She died on April 21, 1918 in Clyde, Cloud County, Kansas.

Obituary: On Thursday, June 2, 1904, James M. Dawson died of apoplexy, aged 72 years, 1 month, and 7 days. He was born near Indianapolis, Ind., April 5, 1832; was married to Sarah M. Laflin May 15, 1856; to this union seven children were born, five daughters and two sons; four of the daughters have gone before; Mrs. Louie Headley, of Kansas City still survives; of the two sons, one is still living on the farm and the other in Ames (Kansas). The deceased came to Kansas in 1880, which made him a resident 24 years. He has always been a kind father and a loving husband and good neighbor. Funeral took place at Clyde, in the M.E, Church, conducted by Rev. M.E. Goodrich. The remains were then borne to Mount Hope Cemetery and there silently deposited. The deceased leaves a wife, two sons and one daughter to mourn his loss. (This obituary was in my notes but without a note to tell in which newspaper it was printed.)

Lucilla Dawson was born on October 19, 1869 in Montmorency, Fayette, County, Indiana and died March 12, 1915 in Ames, Cloud County, Kansas. She married George E Headley.
Sarah Cyntha Dawson was born on December 10, 1874 and died on January 3, 1875.
James Arthur Dawson was born on December 19, 1886 in Ames, Kansas and died November 7, 1973 in Ames, Kansas. He married Alice Waunita Inman.
